Search Engine Reputation Management - Creativity is Crucial

Search Engine reputation management is a very time consuming, delicate process. The simple truth is that you have to have an acute understanding of the algorithms search engines use to rank web sites and more importantly what to do and WHAT NOT TO DO.

You can contact just about any search marketing firm and as long as you will throw money at them they will quickly tell you - "Sure, we can do that, no problem."

But before doing that please continue reading below...

Search Marketing Firms

DO WE OFFER SEARCH MARKETING SERVICES
We could easily advertise a search marketing service and help clients get to the top of search engines on certain marketable keywords. But reputation management is what I am passionate about. I strive to help clients clear their name so they can stop losing money, relationships, and business deals, and start making them.

Recently,
I came across a web site for a search marketing firm and they put up a page on reputation management. This is what they advertised,

1) We submit your site to  thousands of search engines!
2) We get your site listed # 1 in the search engines when someone types in your name!
3) We send out cease and desist notices too all web sites that speak poorly of you!
4) We place hundreds of links all over the internet leading directly to your home page.

WOW!
This advertisement honestly shocked me.

<<
1) We submit your site to  thousands of search engines! >>
This is pretty much useless jargon designed to sound like an amazing deal to someone who is unfamiliar with search engine marketing. Keep in mind that Google, Yahoo, MSN, ASK, and AOL account for over 90% of all search traffic. That's five search engines. Basically they have a software program that allows them to put in your web site address and push a button. That software then automatically submits your web site to all of those search engines. This may have been barely effective in the mid to late ninties but now it would probably only hurt you.

The best way to have your web site indexed by a search engine is for the search engine to follow a link from another site to yours. Submitting your site to a search engine is useless and makes you look like a spammer. And search engines hate spamming! If anything this process could get your site flagged and ultimately removed from their search index entirely.

<< 2) We get your site listed # 1 in the search engines when someone types in your name! >>
This is not a difficult task. The difficult task is getting positive publicity to outrank the negative publicity in the top 20 of the big three search engines. When someone types in your name sure your web site may be number 1 but if they see all sorts of negative publicity at #4, $5 and so on than that is what many people will click. People have a tendency to read something negative especially when they are 'checking you out'. 80% of all search traffic stays on the first two pages (top 20) of results when they perform a search. So, I focus on your top 20 and then your top 30 listings when someone types in your name.

<< 3) We send out cease and desist notices too all web sites that speak poorly of you! >>
Eeeeeek! Please read this first!

<< 4) We place hundreds of links all over the internet leading directly to your home page! >>
Google, Yahoo, and all of the important search engines will view that as 'unnatural' and your site will get flagged. Most likely they are referring to software that will allow them to type in your web site address and hit a button. The web site than sends your link to hundreds of FFA pages. These FFA (Free for all) pages are almost all flagged in Google and having your link there in bad company is going to get your site penalized as well.

Synopsis
I hope I don't sound like I am bashing this firm's approach. But, to put it bluntly, this is a useless waste of money that will likely harm your web site and make the negative publicity even worse.

This is your name we are talking about and online reputation management is a delicate process. It's the last place where you would want to hire just any tech guy to go in and work on it. This is what I specialize in and I am very passionate about my work.

This is how it starts......

1) At the bottom of this page you will notice a brief online form. Please take a few minutes to submit the requested information. You have nothing to lose and it just might be one of the best decisions you could make. When you submit this form I will go through the search engines and research the name that is receiving negative publicity.

2) If I feel like I can solve the problem. I will email you promptly with more information and a quote.
